Despite figures showing the air cargo industry clearly in recovery mode, the International Air Transport Association (Iata) warned airlines to continue to focus on matching supply with demand in order to improve profits. Iata said volumes R20;surgedR21; in May, 34% higher than in May 2009. Traffic was 6% higher than pre-recession levels, while load factors had reached a R20;record highR21; of 55.7%, because traffic growth had outstripped a capacity increase of 12.3%. However, Director General and CEO said: R20;In the short-term, airlines need to focus on nurturing the recovery by continuing to match capacity carefully to improving demand conditions.
